In the moves we do, what changes the clock most isn't the square metres of the flat but the stairs, the lift and whether the boxes are ready. As a guide in Madrid, a student room takes 2-4 hours, a studio 3-5, a 1-2 bedroom flat 4-8 and a large home can take a day or two.
In short
- Room or studio: 2-5 hours. 1-2 bedroom flat: 4-8 hours.
- Each floor without a lift adds about 20-30 minutes.
- Best first thing or mid-morning, Tuesday to Thursday.
- With us there's no overtime: if it runs long, the price doesn't change.
How long does a move take by size?
The size of the home sets the range, and the Madrid market agrees on one thing: according to Mudanzas Calleja, 85 % of moves under 80 m² are completed in under 8 hours. These are the usual times by type, next to what it costs with us.
| Type of move | Usual time | Our rate (no overtime) |
|---|---|---|
| Student room | 2-4 h | €349 (studio) |
| Studio or 1-bedroom flat | 3-5 h | €349 · €449 (1 bed) |
| 1-2 bedroom flat40-50 m² | 4-8 h | €449 · €699 (2 bed) |
| 2-3 bedroom flat | 8-12 ha full day, 3-4 movers | €699 · €949 (3 bed) |
| Large home | 10-12 h or 1-2 days | Via WhatsApp |
Ranges from Mudanzas Calleja, Personal Transporter and Mudanzas Cristian. Our rates include 2 movers (studio and 1 bedroom) or 3 (2 and 3 bedrooms), with VAT and insurance.
What stretches (and shortens) the clock?
What decides whether your move lands at the low or high end of the range is access. A studio with a small lift, packing not finished and a third floor easily goes to 5-6 hours instead of the 3 you expected. What adds the most:
- No lift: about 20-30 minutes per floor. Islatrans puts a simple move without a lift at 4-6 hours.
- Small lift (maximum 2 people): can double the time going up.
- Packing not finished: 1-2 hours more on the day.
- Furniture to take apart (wardrobes, beds): 30-60 minutes per item.
- Street with no loading bay or no space: laps looking for somewhere to park without moving a box.

What time and day are best for moving in Madrid?
The best is to start first thing (7-9 h) or mid-morning (10-12 h), before the commute and the school run. Avoid 17 to 20 h: traffic shows on every trip. On weekdays, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday are quieter than Fridays and month-ends, which fill up because of rental contracts ending.

How does the ZBE affect a move?
Madrid's general Low Emission Zone is active 24 hours, 7 days a week, and vans with a B or C label can drive in without prior authorisation. The Centro District and Plaza Elíptica have extra time restrictions: there, a move counts as an essential service if you carry the supporting paperwork (contract, invoice), or you can park in an authorised car park and do the last stretch by hand. Driving in without complying can cost up to €200. More detail in the guide to moving in central Madrid.
